It is our honor to announce the participation of Dr. Michael Melkonian, Dr. Andrey A. Gontcharov, Dr. Yuri Okolodkov, Dr. Oksana Vinogradova, Dr. Alexander Krakhmalny, Dr. Ruslan Gevorgiz, Dr. Anatoly Levanets, Dr. Hikmat Hisoriev, Dr. Hosein Riahi, Dr. Mohammad Amin Hejazi, and Dr. Iraj Nabipur for presenting key note talks on different aspects of phycology in the 2nd NICP.

Dr. Michael Melkonian is the emeritus professor of University of Cologne (Germany). He has conducted hundreds of projects on different aspects of algal research. Dr. Andrey A. Gontcharov is the professor of Institute of Biology and Soils Science (Russia). His main area of research is on molecular phylogeny of the conjugating green algae (Zygnemophyceae, Streptophyta), published more than twenty papers indexed by Scopus. Dr. Yuri Okolodkov is the professor of Instituto de Ciencias Marinas y Pesquerías, Universidad Veracruzana (Mexico). His works was mainly focused on algal bloom formations and their environmental pollution problems. He is the author of more than forty papers indexed by Scopus. Dr. Oksana Vinogradova is the professor of Department of Phycology, M. G. Kholodny Institute of Botany (Ukraine). Her research works are on different aspects of biodiversity, taxonomy, ecology, and cultivation of blue-green algae/cyanobacteria, extreme biotopes, and nature conservation. Currently, she is Deputy Editor in Chief of journal of Algologia and the editorial board member of International Journal of Algae. Dr. Alexander Krakhmalny is the professor of Institute for Evolutionary Ecology, National Academy of Sciences (Ukraine). His research works is on biodiversity, ecology, and morphology of dinoflagellatae. He is the author of more than eighty papers published in peer reviewed international journals. Dr. Anatoly Levanets is the professor of Faculty of Natural Sciences, North-West University (Republic of South Africa). His research area is on biogeography, ecology of freshwater and soil algae. Dr. Ruslan Gevorgiz is the professor of Department of Biotechnology and Phytoresources, Federal State Budgetary Institution on Science, IMBR (Russia). They work with a team of researchers on the formation of a database to develop the theoretical and experimental foundations of marine biotechnology; creation of the control theory and development of mathematical models of dependence of the growth and biochemical characteristics of hydrobionts depending on their genetic heterogeneity and environmental indicators; the creation of a museum of marine microalgae; development of biotechnologies for the production of raw materials, food and health products, feed additives from Gracillaria, Phyllophora, Laurencia, Gelidium, Cystoseira, Spirulina, Chlorella, Dunaliella, Porphyridium , etc. The development of methods for transferring marine and freshwater microalgae to the state of anhydrobiosis and reactivation from this state in order to preserve the gene pool of marine phytoresources; development of application programs, databases and supporting software for calculating the dynamics of hydrobionts and the chemical composition of water based on the developed models and algorithms; theoretical substantiation of all the necessary calculations for the development of systems for additional treatment of wastewater using algae and higher aquatic plants. 

 

Dr. Hikmat Hisoriev is the professor of Institute of Botany, Plant Physiology and Genetics, Academy of sciences of the Republic of Tajikestan. He is the director of the research institute where they work on the systematic study of the flora of the higher and lower plants, botanical resources investigations, geobotanical studies, development of theoretical, foundations and methods of using the achievements of plant physiology and biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology to improve the efficiency of photosynthesis, high-yielding, environmentally-plant physiology and biochemistry. 

 

Dr. Han is the professor of Hydrobiology at Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wuhan, China.  Her research interest is directed on addressing fundamental and applied biological questions related to algae-based biofuels and chemicals by using multiple techniques including molecular and cellular biology, plant physiological and biochemical tools. The current research interests include 1) lipid biosynthesis, regulation and sequestration mechanisms, 2) biosynthesis of high-value products (e.g. carotenoids) in microalgae, 3) algal stress biology, and 4) systematic metabolic engineering and synthetic biology. Dr. Hosein Riahi is the professor of Bioscience and Biotechnology Department, Shahid Beheshti University (Iran). He works on different aspects of algae from molecular biology to their industrialization in food, agriculture, cosmetics, and feed industry. He published more than forty peer reviewed papers on his field of research indexed by Scopus.                                    Dr. Riahi was also the chairman of the first conference of Iran on phycology.

 

 Dr. Mohammad Amin Hejazi is the professor Agricultural Biotechnology Research Institute of Iran (Tabriz). He works on agricultural and food biotechnology of microalgae. His research works is mainly focused on cultivation and commercialization of Dunaliella products. Dr. Iraj Nabipour is the professor of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Bushehr University of Medical Sciences (Iran). His main area of research is on biodiversity and environmental biotechnology of zooplanktons.
